Undergraduate

Students in the Bachelor of Psychological Science (BPsychSc) degree have the option of choosing a second major within their psychology degree.

Along with the core psychology courses students can choose to study a second specialty by replacing their elective courses with specific courses related to their second specialty.

A second major, as specified in the Bachelor of Psychological Science Academic Program Rules, is optional and not a compulsory requirement for this degree. Students choosing a second major must also complete electives to the value of 15 units, with a combined total of not less than 72 units.

Students choosing not to complete a second major must complete electives up to the value of 39 units with a combined total of not less than 72 units. Students have the option of completing all six Level 3 core psychology courses.

From 2015, Psychology will no longer be offered as a major in a Commerce degree, Health Science degree, Arts degree and Science degree. This is result of a re-structure of the Bachelor of Psychological Sciences.

Students who commenced a major in Psychology, by completing at least one course in Psychology at the University of Adelaide in 2014 or earlier, will be permitted to complete their major. The major must be completed within 10 years of the first year of enrolment in Psychology courses.

Students who have not commenced any studies in Psychology prior to 2015 will not be able to pursue a major in Psychology in a Commerce degree, Health Science degree, Arts degree and Science degree.

Level I and II Psychology courses are available as elective courses in other programs of the University (Level III courses required for the Psychology major are only available in the Bachelor of Psychological Science).

The Faculty of Arts plans to make a minor in Psychology available from 2015 in the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Development Studies, Bachelor of Environmental Policy and Management, Bachelor of International Studies, and Bachelor of Social Sciences. Please note that the minimum requirement for entry into Honours in Psychology is a major in psychology. A minor in psychology is not accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) and will not lead to the Honours year. For further information, visit the APAC website.

Academic & Critical Dates outline when enrolment opens/close, last day to withdraw from courses without fail, exam and supplementary exam periods as well as semester dates for the current and next year.

If you are currently enrolled in an undergraduate program at the University of Adelaide and you wish to transfer into a new program (or start another program concurrently), you may be eligible to apply for an internal transfer.

If you have completed University study at another institution you may be eligible for course credit for course work already completed. Please see the School Office for further information.

Students studying psychology programs are able to participate in Study Abroad/Student Exchange Programs. Students are responsible for obtaining approval from the School of Psychology at least 8-weeks prior to starting the exchange. In the first instance make an appointment with a Student Exchange advisor in the School to discuss course content and equivalencies. Psychology courses undertaken during the exchange must meet the year level and content of psychology topics covered during the semester they are away.

Career Information Sessions

Career information sessions for undergraduate psychology students are held twice a year.

A session will be offered during semester 1 and students will be informed through MyUni.

Please join us to learn more about the wide variety of career opportunities available to psychology graduates. At this session you will hear from professionals with a psychology background working accross a range of sectors.

The second session will be held in semester 2.

Careers Service

Students studying psychology at the undergraduate level can receive career advice from the staff at the Careers Service.

The Career Service assists students to achieve career goals and make the transition from University student to workplace professional.

This 4-year degree will be discontinued from 2015. Students currently enrolled in the program will be able to complete under this degree.
