Honours Psychology

Honours Psychology is normally taken as a full-time program over one year, although it is possible, on approved grounds and subject to certain conditions, to enrol over two consecutive years. If done part-time the coursework is done in the first year and the research project is done in the second year.

Assessment

There are four major components:

1. a thesis to be submitted for examination
2. an examination in the compulsory topic "Research Methods and Statistics"
3. an examination and assessment in the compulsory topic "Current Issues in Psychology"
4. two coursework electives examinations

Prizes

The Australian Psychological Society Prize is awarded each year to the student who has, in that year, most distinguished himself/herself in the subject for the Honours degree in Psychology.

Publication Award Incentive Scheme

Honours and Masters coursework students are encouraged to prepare the results of their research, with the help of their supervisors, for publication in high-quality refereed journals or as a chapter in a peer-reviewed book.

Successful publication is rewarded with a certificate and cash award from the School. If students publish in a high-impact journal - defined as a journal with a 1-year impact factor (IF) ≥ 2 - the award is valued at $1,000. For Journals with a 1-year IF < 2, the award is $500.
