Transfer Process

Information for students wishing to transfer to the new Health & Medical Science degrees

This information is for students who wish to request a transfer to either the Bachelor of Health & Medical Sciences or Bachelor of Health & Medical Sciences (Advanced) degrees.  Students will be transferred so that they will be able to enrol in these degrees for Semester 1, 2017.

The process will involve an assessment being made of your progress through the current degree, and whether it is academically sensible for you to transfer. The reason for assessing students for transfer is to ensure that students who do transfer are able to complete the new degree without extending the duration of their study (subject to students subsequently passing their courses in the future).  The following table is a general guide to the likelihood of being able to transfer to the new degrees.

By the end of 2016 Advice

I will have completed 24 units or less of my program (or of the Health Science component if I’m in a double degree)

Transfer to new degrees is possible.

I will have completed more than 24 but less than 36 units of my program (or of the Health Science component if I’m in a double degree)

Transfer may be possible, but will likely extend the time taken to complete the degree beyond the standard degree duration; it will very likely require some part-time study in one or both semesters in 2017, since compulsory Level III courses are only available from 2018.

I will have completed more than 36 units of my program (or of the Health Science component if I’m in a double degree)

Transfer may be possible, but will extend the time taken to complete the degree beyond the standard degree duration; it will very likely involve some part-time study and may require leave of absence in 2017 until the compulsory Level III courses are available in 2018.

I will have completed 48 or more units of my program

(or of the Health Science component if I’m in a double degree)

Transfer will extend the time taken to complete the degree beyond the standard degree duration (in nearly all cases adding at least 2 more years); it will involve some combination of part-time study and/or leave of absence in 2017, as well as not enrolling in Level III courses until 2018; it is possible that not all courses successfully completed under current program will be able to be credited towards the new degree.

Requesting a transfer

Students wishing to request a transfer should do so using the University’s Internal Transfer Request process. Students are reminded that this transfer is a one-way transfer, and you will not be able to transfer back if you subsequently change your mind.

TRANSFER
Apply to transfer

Students intending to transfer are encouraged to do so before November. This will ensure that you are assessed and, if approved, transferred to the new degree before enrolments for Semester 1 2017 open.
